How to move stake between validators
Move your staked Alpha to another validator in the same subnet—without selling the token or changing subnets.

Lesson outline
Moving stake changes the validator linked to your position. Your subnet token, Alpha amount and wallet ownership stay the same.
Because the position is not swapped through the subnet pool, a same-subnet move does not create price impact. A normal network fee may still apply.
Make sure Move is right
Use Move when you want to keep the same subnet token but change validators.
Use Swap when you want to return to TAO or choose a token from a different subnet.
This guide covers moves between validators in the same subnet.

Choose your position
Open Move and select the staked Alpha position you want to change.
Before continuing, check the subnet name, subnet number and Alpha amount. The current and destination validators must belong to the same subnet.
Compare validators
Review the available validators and their estimated APY.
A higher APY may look better today, but it can change with validator and subnet performance. Choose a validator based on the information available—not only the highest number.
Your position remains yours whichever validator you choose.
Review and confirm
Before continuing, check:
- The subnet and Alpha amount
- Your current validator
- Your destination validator
- Any network fee shown
Select Review, then approve the request in your wallet only when the details match your choice.
Wait for the confirmed result before leaving the page. PotaTao never asks for your recovery phrase or takes custody of your tokens.
Know what can change
Estimated APY and rewards can change after the move as validator and subnet performance changes.
Your Alpha remains in the same subnet, but its value in TAO can still rise or fall. Moving to another validator does not guarantee higher rewards.
FAQ
Does moving stake sell my Alpha?
No. A same-subnet move keeps your Alpha staked and changes only the validator linked to the position.
Does a same-subnet move create price impact?
No. The position is not swapped through the subnet pool. A normal network fee may still apply.
Can I move stake to a validator in another subnet?
Not with Move. Use Swap when you want a different subnet token or want to return to TAO.
Who owns the position after a move?
You do. The validator linked to the position changes, but ownership remains with your wallet.
Can the estimated APY change after I move?
Yes. Estimated APY reflects current conditions and is not guaranteed.
